ETHNOGRAPHY FOR POLITICAL SCIENCE AND PUBLIC POLICY
This short course is intended to provide participants with the tools, skills, understandings, vocabulary, and theoretical underpinnings of the ethnographic method. This particular short course examines applications of ethnography to public policy problems. As a result, we will discuss some theoretical constructs in public policy theory, comparative politics, integrating them with those emanating from ethnographic research. Given that fieldwork, participant observation, ethics, and interviewing are all interlocking components of ethnography, this short course will require participants to undertake some fieldwork (on their own), as well as designing an ethics application form, engage in participant observation and undertake an interview with approval and consent.
