Werner is professor of comparative government at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany. He has taught at the universities of Passau, Salzburg, Paris (École pratique de hautes études), Moscow (High School of Economics), and at summer schools in Stellenbosch, Ankara, and Naples. From 2009 to 2014 he was an elected member of the Executive Committee of IPSA and since 2016 he is IPSA’s summer school coordinator.
His research interests include legislatures, parties, political culture, political communication, comparative historical political systems, evolutionary institutionalism, and social science epistemology and methodology.
His publications include monographs and edited volumes of (comparative) legislative studies, many journal articles and book chapters on legislative research, political culture, populism, and evolutionary theory in the social sciences. In addition, Professor Patzelt is active as a commentator of ongoing political events in newspapers, radio, and TV.
